David and Goliath - Giants Do Fall

NOVEMBER 1, 2020

1 Samuel 17
Anyone that knows me that I love me some David. You know David, the youngest son of Jesse that was left out in the field to tend to the sheep while his brothers were invited to a feast to see who would be anointed king of Israel. The one who once he made it to the feast was actually the one that God had chosen. That David. That same David was sent to the battlegrounds where his brothers were in the Israeli Army serving under King Saul. It is here that David stepped on the scene and won one of the biggest and most significant battles of his young life. Here David hears this “uncircumcised Philistine” named Goliath, defying the armies of God. Here David witnesses King Saul and the entire Army of Israel scared and afraid to go forward and fight this giant. Here David hears the dishonor that Goliath walks in as it pertains to God. He was vexed in his spirit. He continues to hear what is being said and continues to see no one step up to answer the challenge that has been set before them by Goliath. Eventually David has heard enough. He accepts the challenge. He will face Goliath. Of course Goliath is offended, this young, ruddy and good looking boy has stepped onto the battlefield as if he was going to win. The audacity. The audacity of this untrained boy to think that he could possibly defeat this well trained warrior is insane. What’s even crazier is that David stepped onto this scene with absolutely no sword. But he did have a weapon. To the naked eye David’s weapon was his sling and his satchel of rocks. But how many of you know that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal. David’s weapon was the power of God and believing that God would deliver Goliath into his hands. While Goliath was name calling David was selecting his one smooth stone. While Goliath was staring at David with distain, David was whirling that sling with that one smooth stone around his head praying within for precision when he hit his mark. As Goliath counted David out, the power of God was working through David. As the stone hit Goliath it was a wrap. He didn’t see the hit coming and as that stone sank into his head he fell to the ground. THIS, no one saw coming, no one except for David. No one saw this ultimate defeat and as both the Philistine and Israeli armies were standing in awe with their mouths open, David was running toward the fallen champion. He reached him, grabbed Goliath’s sword and cut his head off. Now David stands, over the body of the “uncircumcised Philistine” head in hand watching the Philistine Army scattering and fleeing the scene.
Many times we find ourselves just like David, overlooked and late to the party yet right on time. You’re discounted, and thought to be of little to no significance, in the eyes of man. You’re often times left out. You’ve gotten used to it and just go with the flow. But God! God says that the times when you were overlooked by man you were being prepared in the secret place by Him. And now your time has come. You are standing in front of this giant who is scary and intimidating and everyone around you is scared, are you? You have been preparing for this, for this moment. In the secret place where it was just you and God. In the secret place where you have been trained and prepped for this moment, it’s your time. Time for you to decide that the giant’s time is up. His time of intimidation in your life has come to an end. Off with his head! You have a David inside of you and it’s time for him to be revealed. Stand up David your giant has arrived.
Prayer:
Father God I come to You this day thanking You for showing us who we are. Thanking You for allowing us to catch a glimpse of the purpose You have bestowed upon us. We know that You have greater for us. Let us not forget that we were created in Your image. In this we see that we are victorious and we may not ever accept defeat. Let our desire be aligned with what You have in store for us and who You created us to be. Let us find you in the secret place and use that time to hone the skills to walk in victory. Your name is Victory and therefore so is ours. Thank you God for always fighting for us and providing us with the power to defeat any giant that dares stand in our way. Let the spirit of the Lord rest upon us and may we walk in the everlasting power of God. In Jesus Name. Amen
